Austin’s Favorite Tex-Mex Restaurants
Tex-Mex encompasses much more than you’d expect, and staples like enchiladas, burritos, and quesadillas line menus throughout the Lone Star State.
Outlined in this list, are our favorite restaurants that we feel serve the best Tex-Mex in Austin!
1. Eldorado Cafe has THE best tex-mex in Austin and far exceeds its unsuspecting exterior. Inside, the family-owned-and-operated cafe serves rich, colorful plates with airy chips. Their most popular dish is Carnitas Cubanos. And you should definitely try their award-winning queso!
2. A longtime Austin landmark, Polvo’s is the place to find solid Tex-Mex, and quite a bit of it – seriously, the menu is extensive and the portions are LARGE. Perfect for sharing!
3. Joe’s Bakery and Coffee Shop has been an Austin staple since the 1960s, though you’d never guess by its unsuspecting, hole-in-the-wall vibe. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner here. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu! Joe’s offers rows and rows of pan dulce, pastries, concha (sweet Mexican bread), freshly brewed coffee, tacos, and traditional breakfast plates. Their most popular dish, the Migas Plate, is made up of eggs scrambled with tortilla chips and American cheddar, refried beans, and two tortillas. Essentially, it’s perfection.
